Today, I write about something much more important that any material thing out there. I am going to tell you about an amazing thing my parents have been doing for the past few years—The Wallace R Bostwic Memorial Fund. A fund set up to help those fighting for our country in Afghanistan.
A few years ago, my dad set out to honor his late military high-school roommate and best friend, Wally Bostwic, a Vietnam Veteran. His goal was to collect enough money to send Christmas gifts to those in Bagram, Afghanistan in Wally’s name. He raised a good bit of money the first and second year, but nothing compares to last year, they were able to raise $40,000 from 57 donors which allowed them to create 200 gift boxes from that money which contained personal essentials like toothpaste, coffee, wool socks and blankets, movies, books and many other really nice personal items that are truly appreciated by those in the service.
This year’s plan is to raise $50,000 in gifts and donations to create 300 gift packages to arrive for the holidays in December. Little things count a lot, and the Holidays are a great time to show our support. This years gift packages will include blankets, socks, phone cards and Starbucks instant coffee among many other really nice items. Early indications from last year’s donors indicate that they are willing to participate again this year and help the expanded efforts.

The photo above speaks for the appreciation our gift packages created. With your support, we can reach or exceed the goal of $50,000 which will make a lot of people happy while away from home. Time is important to coordinate this year’s volume of gifts so moving ahead quickly is important. Please feel free to send this to others you think may wish to contribute. All donations will be tax deductible under the 501c tax status of “The Wallace R Bostwic Memorial Fund” that was established last year. All donors will be provided with a receipt to acknowledge their donation.
Every dollar counts, remember, it is not about the war, it is about the people who risk their lives everyday to keep us safe.
